A council leader has promised that local people's views will be listened to before decisions are made about the controversial sell off land for housing in Mid Norfolk villages.

On Monday Breckland's Cabinet is holding a special meeting to discuss disposal of three sites at Bawdeswell, Necton and Yaxham to Peddars Way Housing Association.

Book lovers at both ends of the age span today joined forces to open the new £1.9 million Dereham Library.

As she approaches her 93rd birthday Ruby Roper, of Toftwood, is the oldest library member and cut the ribbon with four-year-old Imogen Joyce, of Dereham, whose little sister Evelyn, four months, is the youngest member.

Budding film makers took to the streets of Dereham yesterday to document the state of the town ahead of a key conference on its future.

With business leaders, local politicians and police chiefs meeting on Friday to discus the shape of Dereham and Thetford in coming years, teenagers hit the town armed with video cameras to find out what “the man on the street” thought about life in Dereham.

Traders in Breckland are being given a hand to fight credit card crime ahead of the Christmas rush and January sales.

Already more than 20 businesses from all over the area have signed up to a free conference in Dereham on Wednesday November 30, 10.30-12 and there are still some places left for applications, which need to be in by Monday.

It is a drink forever associated with scenic glens, peat fires, kilts and tartans.

But now a Norfolk father and son are planning to produce their own whisky, 300 miles from Scotland.

The pair have drawn up plans for a £1m-plus distillery at Roudham, in the Breckland countryside, complete with bottling plant, visitor centre and shop.

And although the liquor does not yet have its own name, James Nelstrop and his son Andrew have already named their venture the Norfolk Whisky Company.
